One sunny Saturday morning in September fellow creatives gathered at the picturesque Prestwich Collection for our second Makers Ink & Gather workshop where we doodled the day away creating Tiny Original drawings. We sold out so fast we had to add a couple of seats when a few hearts were broken that they missed out on a ticket. There is something truly exceptional about these doodle days where people from all around Cape Town with various degrees of drawing experience gather to reconnect with their creative sides. Absolute beginners are unequivocally welcome and I adore seeing the pride they feel when they see what they are able to create with a little bit of coaching.
Our very first Ink & Gather workshop took place on Saturday 6 August 2016 thanks to the immeasurably talented husband and wife team, Grant and Lynn, who created Makers and invited me to be a part of it. We all gathered at the Prestwich Collection headquarters at Mason’s Press and spent four and a half hours creating beautiful drawings together. The only teaching experience I have had was in fourth year of art school helping the third years create fashion animations for the fashion students so I had absolutely no idea what to expect. Being able to share my knowledge of ink drawing, the process that I have developed and talking fellow creatives through drawing with the right side of their brains was immensely rewarding. We had the most incredible group of people ranging from absolute beginners to some seriously talented folks.
