Another first for my workshops! I approached the obscenely talented Matanna Katz of Ethereal Bound Journal to lead a styling hour at my Ink + Foil workshop. Styling is something I have been working on especially in the last year and it was truly exceptional to see the difference between the photographs the attendees took during the workshop compared to the photographs during the styling hour. Drawings, or anything else for that matter, are elevated with a thoughtful approach to props and natural lighting.
As a young girl, all I ever wanted was to move to New York to work in the fashion industry. My love of fashion evolved to a career in graphic design and almost accidentally to illustration. As a young adult, I received a gracious offer to stay in the Upper West Side with one of my clients, Simply African Living, to help with a pop-up shop.
“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward for him. Like arrows in the hands of a warrior are children born in one’s youth.” – Psalm 127:3-4
The first thing I ask when someone requests a commissioned original artwork is his or her story. The more I know about you the better I can capture your heart in intricate lines of ink. This particular drawing as commissioned by Magdel for her darling sisters thirtieth, blew my mind. It was exceptionally special for me to work closely with a fellow Christian and hear their heartbreaking story of incredible love, loss and how they have grown together as a family, as individuals and with God.
