This year has sparked such personal growth in not just my life, but in my work as well. Especially in the projects and collaborations that I accept and pour my heart into. Last year my illustrations revolved around taking a rape survivor and attempting to transform the way she viewed her body through photography and artworks. It was such an intimate process and it’s one of my biggest passions in life. To be able to use my art platform to initiate honest, raw conversations not just between women in general, but to those secret conversations taking place in our minds as well.
This is a story sewn by honest hands speaking to a simpler way of living. #mysummerwithjane – Amy Venter
Hello twenty eighteen. It has been a beautiful break filled with sunshine, friends and family. The final tick off my holiday wish list before I head back to my studio on Monday was to visit the new Jane Sews pop-up shop 83 Castle Street, Cape Town. The store is exceptionally decorated and truly celebrates expertly made fashion in earthy tones. I could spend hours exploring the linen, cotton, silk and leather pieces and took my camera with me to capture the experience and share this gorgeous local brand with you all.
Seeking to move mountains. By faith. In love. With passion. But on our own terms. We remind each other of this truth when the climb is steep + rewards few. – Uzuri
The exquisite Uzuri brand has captured my attention for quite some time now and when I found out they were releasing their thoughtfully crafted Summer 2017 collection I thought it was time to approach the ladies for a little interview to learn more about their brand and products. Uzuri is a brand that truly resonates with me personally and the touching story behind the business draws me in even further.
My Ink + Foil workshop was held this past weekend and it was the first time that I was in charge of everything myself. I missed my talented friend Lynn who usually would deal with all of the admin, gift bags and tools immensely. 🙂
I am in designer heaven filled with hand crafted artisanal items at the New York Now expo at the Javits Center. There are so many stalls that I am spreading my visits out over the next few days to take it all in. Here are my five favourites from my visit today.
Sean and I are both originally from Port Elizabeth so we have a very special place in our heart for all things Eastern Cape. Part of his proposal was surprise tickets to visit our families two weeks later where his mom had arranged for an intimate engagement party to celebrate.
We have all grown to know and adore this inspiring local brand, thoughtfully created by founder Nelle van Deventer. Their hand crafted food for your skin collection of products started in a very small kitchen in Cape Town and has since grown into a powerful brand with expert visuals and top quality organic skin ranges. It is by far my favourite local packaging and the use of simple, minimalistic and ever so slightly naive ink drawings speaks to my design heart like no other brand can.
There is something so delicately authentic about raw diamond slices. It is refreshingly different to the usual polished perfection and is somewhat less expensive. They are referred to as Polki or Kundan diamonds and are essentially uncut diamonds mined from the earth in a natural way without enhancement or lab creation.
Almost a year ago I moved in to Sean’s truly exquisite flat that an interior architect professionally renovated around seven years ago. Unfortunately, being a real boy, that also meant that seven years of clutter had accumulated, cringe worthy posters adorned the walls and there were very dark grey colours in the bedroom.
“Kindled from the French word raconteur, meaning storyteller, Conteu Magazine is a collection of stories that celebrate the makers, honour the thinkers and inspire the adventurers.” – Megan & Chloe
Hands up if you are not 100% happy with your skin.
We all have some form of an issue with our skin. It is our largest organ and is easily affected by excessive sun exposure, sugar, greasy food, alcohol, stress or lack of sleep. As we get older we have the added stress of delaying the inevitable ageing process. For a while I was somewhat smugly convinced that I seemed to have successfully avoided that awkward prepubescent pimply ordeal only to be hit with it full force in my twenties. I tried everything from ridiculously expensive laser treatments, facials, Vitamin A tablets, and a range of different products and was still left with horrible skin. Drastically changing my lifestyle over the last five years has improved my skin quite extensively but I was nervous to try 100% natural skin products for in case it leads to a terrifying breakout again.
