Contours of Cape Town
This vast space and peace is what I aimed to capture through these intricate lines of ink as well as my heart: my unequivocal love for this city. It’s the perfect balance between excitement, adventure, art of a modern city and the beauty of pure, undiluted nature.
My Cape Town and Proudly South African works of art are some of my most cherished pieces and I am beyond thrilled to finally reveal the piece that I have been dreaming about for years. My contour study of Table Mountain has now spread further to reveal the whole of Cape Town, my home as well as my heart. It was inspired by intimate weekends spent with my (now) husband simply hopping into the car and driving around Table Mountain and stopping off at random spots when and where we felt like it. We explore new restaurants, bars, views and especially love visiting Cape Point where Sean surprised me last winter to propose.
The city bowl can feel cramped and suffocating sometimes, especially with noise, traffic, too many people and especially the intense difficulty of finding parking on a daily basis. Which is why we love driving further out over the weekends and immersing ourselves into nature to offer us the escape and breathing space to unwind from our stressful city lives. This vast space and peace is what I aimed to capture through these intricate lines of ink as well as my heart: my unequivocal love for this city. It’s the perfect balance between excitement, adventure, art of a modern city and the beauty of pure, undiluted nature.
Cape Town has been my chosen home now for almost 8 years, the majority of my twenties. The mother city has help shape me into the woman and artist that I am today and I adore looking back on all of my milestones that took place right here. I have grown so much, experienced so much and it’s been such an honour to do it all in the most beautiful city in the world (yes, I am slightly biased). I have lived in 8 different homes in the City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard and finally now on the slopes of Lions Head. I have dated a string of interesting people and finally found my exceptional husband whom I married right here in Cape Town. I have celebrated seven birthdays here – most recently my thirtieth. I have killed myself working in both corporate environments, as a freelancer and now finally as my very own boss.
This city has witnessed my greatest successes and my most intense failures. It is my wild, gorgeous and wonderfully flawed home.
My online store is now officially being run by Artist Admin where my new MM Minions have taken over all of the admin roles which frees me up to create more original artworks and have more limited edition ranges. Things have been changing this year. I feel the intense need to limit my future editions. Each work of art is so dear to me and I want them to be valued as such. Each order is custom printed, hand signed, editioned, embossed for authenticity, hand packaged and couriered straight to your door, anywhere in the world, within 10 days. My focus now shifts to my original drawings and I am exceptionally proud to have 4 of my latest Proudly South African pieces on exhibition at the Riverine Rabbit restaurant in Cape Town with head chef Ash Heeger. My next blog post will expand on our story together and the road forward for my artworks there.
