My favourite part of being a South African artist is the support of the local creative community. We meet each other at markets, exhibitions or sometimes just through good old Instagram. Most of the creatives that I meet are women, which make it even more special. I am so proud of the fiercely talented women in South Africa that have forged their own career paths in the international art industry. It is certainly not always an easy path but through hard work and perseverance it can be a beautifully rewarding career.
One of these incredibly successful female run creative businesses is Zana. They almost do not need any form of introduction anymore but I will share a little bit anyway. Zana was founded in 2012 by the mother and daughter team, Robyn and Sue Britz, in Cape Town. They have a beautiful studio in Woodstock where they do their own sewing, testing, packaging, creating and so many other things that dreams are made of. My house is filled with their beautiful products and my crazy cat lady make-up bag travels in my handbag wherever I go. I first met the girls at Design Indaba last year and I am so excited to have joined hands with them this Women’s Month.
Melissa Louise Lawrence from Zana approached me to collaborate with them. We are celebrating Women’s Month together and what better way than for two female run creative businesses to team up to arrange a special treat for our lovely clients. I gifted ten fine art prints to them to give to their clients and in return they gave me ten gorgeous Black Specks Coin Purses. This giveaway will be on a first-come-first-serve basis for the first ten people to purchase anything off my online store. This includes fine art prints, textiles, wallpaper, original artwork and commissioned artworks so head on over to Maria Magdalena Atelier and stand a chance to be one of the lucky ten to receive these little coin purses.
“A beautiful coin purse for your bag. The front of the coin purse is a printed fabric and the reverse is genuine leather. The purse is fully lined with cotton and the zip is a chunky brass with a Zana pull. 10cm x 13cm in size perfect for coins, cash and cards.”
