The Shapiro Collection
I first heard about Lynn Shapiro, owner of the beautiful Prestwich Collection in Cape Town, through Anzel van Biljon (White Kite Studio) who designed her incredible branding. She popped in to my Tintin in Africa exhibition about a year ago and we started chatting about life in the creative industry. She is one of those beautiful females that you can be instant friends with and I adore her.
For her second wedding anniversary Lynn asked me to handcraft a commissioned original drawing for her husband Grant. We met up for tea at Mason’s Press one morning where we discussed what she had in mind. We decided on a drawing of their babies Loki & Blu and nestled them in a beautiful background of cotton plants (the traditional gifts for second wedding anniversary is cotton). During the meeting she was wandering what her husband, Grant, would buy her and we both giggled that men would probably never think to do something as special as a commissioned original artwork as a gift…
Later that week however they both attended my Summer Saloon exhibition at The Drawing Room Café in Observatory and she fell in love with one of my pieces there. I couldn’t believe it when Grant contacted me to purchase the piece for her as her anniversary gift from him. So many secrets to keep! Two people were unknowingly buying my art for the same anniversary. I don’t think I can fully explain how happy that makes me. They both loved their gifts and sent me this beautiful photograph of their Maria Magdalena Atelier original artwork collection.
Recently, Lynn contacted me once more to handcraft an original drawing of her childhood home. Her mom has finally decided to sell the house and to move into something a little smaller. Lynn and her two sisters decided to capture all of their childhood memories in a drawing and gift it to their mom for Mother’s Day. How special?
Thank you for choosing me as your artist for these incredibly special gifts. Each one has inspired me and I adore bringing your ideas to life!
